Beyond the asteroid belt lies the four giant planets; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Unlike the inner planets, these planets are much larger and are made mostly of gas, hence the name gas giants. They are also much farther from the sun and have longer orbital periods.
Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, has a distinct banded appearance and a large number of moons. Saturn is known for its beautiful rings, made up of ice and rock particles. Uranus and Neptune are both ice giants, with icy cores and thick atmospheres made up of hydrogen, helium, and methane.
