Manhattan DA Responds to GOP on Trump Hush Money

The Manhattan District Attorney, Cyrus Vance Jr., is pushing back against claims by Republican lawmakers that his investigation into former President Trump’s hush money payments is politically motivated. Vance’s office is continuing its investigation, despite Trump’s departure from the White House earlier this year.

Manhattan DA Pushes Back Against GOP Claims

The investigation into former President Trump’s alleged hush money payments began in 2018, following a referral from the Special Counsel’s office. Vance’s office has been looking into whether the payments violated state laws, such as campaign finance laws or business laws. The payments in question were made to women who allegedly had affairs with Trump before he became president.

Recently, a group of Republican House members sent a letter to Vance’s office, accusing the investigation of being politically motivated. Vance pushed back against these claims, stating that his office is simply following the facts and the law. He emphasized that his office’s investigation is not political and has no political motivation.

Investigation into Trump Hush Money Continues

Despite Trump’s departure from the White House, the investigation into his alleged hush money payments is ongoing. Vance’s office has issued subpoenas for Trump’s financial records and tax returns, which have been the subject of a years-long legal battle. The Supreme Court recently ruled that Trump’s tax returns must be turned over to Vance’s office.

The investigation has already led to criminal charges against Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations related to the hush money payments. It remains to be seen whether the investigation will result in charges against Trump himself, but Vance’s office appears to be taking the investigation seriously and pursuing it diligently.

The investigation into Trump’s hush money payments has been ongoing for several years now, and it appears that Vance’s office is committed to seeing it through. Despite claims by Republican lawmakers that the investigation is politically motivated, Vance has emphasized that his office is simply following the facts and the law. The investigation has already led to charges against one of Trump’s associates, and it remains to be seen whether it will result in charges against Trump himself.
